Because of stains

The restaurant had an impressive
assortment of beverages. But never
had they tried anything but Earl Grey.
Never had they swam in a lake.
Never had they been on a date.

The loneliest souls anyone seen
reflected in the tea pot's steal.

Five years in the same cafe.
Seven tables apart.
Lonely hearts.
Lonely arms.
Lonely skin.

One day in the same dry cleaner.
The first words they exchanged:
How strange... same stains
on both our birch beige coats.
Tea pot fell the same morning
same cafe, just one hour apart.
From now, we'll never be apart.

It was too late for children
But the got a Golden Retriever.
Each morning they walked him
to the cafe, buying their
Earl Gray and plain croissants.
And smiling to the waitor as if
he had a role in it all.
It never crossed their minds
to thank the tea pot.
